Iconic Pittsburgh Architecture: The Cathedral Of Learning

Achievement: #34. Take dramatic pictures of famous Pittsburgh buildings

I have two favorite buildings in the city of Pittsburgh: the first is the Steel Building downtown, and the second is the Cathedral of Learning in Oakland. The Cathedral holds a special place in my heart because of my time at the University of Pittsburgh, but also because it’s one of those beacons in the sky that can help you center yourself at any time in Pittsburgh. Many were the times when I was learning to drive and got completely lost and had only the Cathedral to guide me. You can see it from pretty much anywhere.

This picture was taken at Flagstaff Hill in Schenley Park the night we went to see This Is It on the big screen. The Cathedral is 42 stories high.

They sometimes light it up for holidays or Pitt sporting events. I will try to get a picture of that later on in the year!
